Because our students and faculty want to do so much more than the school day allows, we offer a full schedule of team-based activities and extra-curricular programs. They range in age, interest, and ability, offering a wide array of profound learning opportunities students experience at High Meadows.

Debate

Twelve times state champions, High Meadows’ thriving Middle Years Debate program teaches public speaking, rhetoric, and analytical skills while building confidence and teamwork. About 70 percent of our Middle School students participate by the end of eighth grade, which demonstrates the program’s popularity. The Debate team is part of The Middle School Urban Debate League, which brings together a diverse group of students within the Atlanta area who develop greater understanding of current events and policy issues as they strengthen skills.

Band Ensembles

High Meadows’ band program extends beyond the school day with smaller chamber groups, including Jazz Band, Percussion Ensemble, iPad Ensemble, and Drumline. Additional music programs include student conductor training and leadership training, as well as competition at the city and state level – Middle School District Band and Honor Band, All-State Band, Georgia Music Educators Association’s LGPE performances, and Midfest at the University of Georgia, among others.

Multi-Age Play

The Theatre Arts program is highlighted each year by a full-length after-school production created and performed by High Meadows students in fourth through eighth grades. Students can audition for a role or apply to be part of the Managerial Team, and all participate in playwriting (sometimes songwriting), costuming, set design, sound and lighting tech, and more.

High Meadows Cross Country

Cross Country

Our Middle School Cross Country team emphasizes group and individual progress through practice on our 40 acres of meadow and woodlands. Practice is co-ed but boys and girls race separately at youth meets throughout the Atlanta area.

High Meadows Basketball Team

Boys’ Basketball

Sixth through eighth grade boys practice and play against other independent school teams in the area. They work on developing athletic skills on the court, as well as sportsmanship, personal responsibility and team dynamics.

Girls’ Ultimate Frisbee

This non-contact sport stresses fair play, sportsmanship, athleticism, and team camaraderie. Fifth through eighth graders can play on our Ultimate Frisbee team that competes against other middle school teams to advance skills and expand opportunities for game play.
