Head of School & Camp

Lisa Baker joined High Meadows as the Head of School & Camp in 2020. She is responsible for leading educational programming, community building, financial management, attracting and developing faculty and staff, strategic planning, stewardship of our campus, and carrying out our mission.

Lisa has over 30 years of educational experience teaching, coaching, and leading in public and independent schools in Virginia, Maryland, Michigan, and Massachusetts. Lisa’s multitude of roles and experiences include: curriculum development, interdisciplinary teaching, leading a school for gifted learners, college counseling, strategic planning, professional development, fund raising, and swimming instruction. Her early experiences as a Camp Director for Camp Greenway at the Madeira School and her teaching in middle school provided a deep appreciation for the power of a Pre-K through 8th Grade school that embraces the wonders of childhood and the power of student voice. Lisa is a leader who values collaboration and shared responsibility. She is a strategic thinker with a big heart for kids and the adults who support them.

Lisa and her wife Kristi have three children—one who recently graduated college, one in college and one entering her senior year of high school. You will likely see them out together at local markets, paddling the Chattahoochee in their blue canoe, on their bikes, or hiking with their dogs, Luna and Dexter.

Welcome From Lisa

“I could not be happier to serve the High Meadows School and Camp community. Every time I step onto this campus, engage with a teacher, bump into an alum, or chat with a perspective parent, I am reminded of what drew me to this magical place. At High Meadows, students are surrounded by adults who are learners as well as listeners and for whom education is paramount. Every member of our community is a partner and caretaker of our mission and our children. As such, we protect the imaginations and sense of wonder of our students, and encourage their intrinsic desire to lean in and make a difference.

I am convinced that real, deep learning happens only when we are willing to drop our guard, take risks, and stretch toward possibility. It is a process that takes time and patience, and relationships are at the heart of it all.

Ultimately, schools are most valuable because they create connections, relationships, lessons, and stories that people carry with them for the rest of their lives. At High Meadows, we put a premium on these relationships and the connections students make with each other, adults, the natural environment, and the larger world around them. The joy and wonder that exudes from our students extends far beyond their eighth-grade year. It is the foundation upon which they can create their best lives.”

The governing body of High Meadows School is the board of trustees. The board is a self-perpetuating group of volunteer parents, past parents, alumni, grandparents, and friends, all committed to setting the course for the school’s long-term success.

The board identifies and studies issues that will impact the school’s future. Through standing committees as well as strategic task forces, it focuses on governance and mission-centered areas of interest. Stewardship of High Meadows’ resources is a primary duty of the board, not the daily function of the school.

Our faculty inspire, guide, and mentor students every day. We have 50 teachers at High Meadows School, 70% of whom hold a master’s or other advanced degree. Their commitment to exceptional academic preparation and individualized learning through engagement and connection is unparalleled. Every one of them models lifelong learning for students, frequently collaborating with colleagues on project-based initiatives to enrich our teaching methods.

Our unique teaching model places two lead teachers in most classes from Pre-K through Third Grade and maintains a small student to teacher ration throughout. Our Middle Years teachers are subject matter experts who teach specific courses to sixth, seventh, and eighth graders. Small class sizes allow students to develop relationships with a consistent group of teachers throughout these three pivotal learning years.

High Meadows’ commitment to professional development for faculty touches on many areas of learning and education, often focused on studying different viewpoints and techniques to enhance our current programming. These experienced educators are regularly recognized at the national level for innovations in instruction and exceptional student outcomes.
